About the Artist – Nancy O’Donnell

Nancy's life has been dedicated to creating beauty out of the discarded.

Born in the east, raised in the west and having lived in nine states  including Hawaii and abroad in Florence, Italy, her subject matter varies.  Her rich and experience filled travels through life have been grounded in courage and creativity. Considering herself a “desert rat”, southwest landscape is a favorite.  On a spiritual journey for the past 30 years she has a meditative process for each piece and continues to rely and honor the power introduced to her work through a spiritual experience.

Nancy is a self-taught artist, starting with the medium of watercolor in 1990, winning first place in her first juried show in Flagstaff, with a mixed media piece combining pencil with watercolor.  She is currently working in acrylics, always developing and “playing” with new techniques.

Nancy enjoyed a 10 year stay in Arizona from 1991-2001 owning and operating a small local artist’s gallery and gift shop, “The Dancing Lizard. The intimacy of the small community brought her many learning experiences and art projects including restaurant murals, graphic arts, logos and print images.  She won competitions for her painted furniture from the Sedona Arts Center and was guest artist at the Boulders Resort in Cave Creek, AZ.

Closing the shop.  she moved to Palm Desert, CA. where she moved to be near her children and grandchildren, all of which call her “Gramma Lizard”.  She was juried into a very successful two month  show at the Palm Desert Visitors Center availing several commissions.  Commission pieces are a favorite venue as her conceptual talent, undertanding of color and spatial  balance, and  human insight culminate in the creation of the desired work.

Nancy returned to the small western town of Wickenburg in 2012 to open a small shop of her work…enjoying the status of “Personal Artist” at Gramma Lizard’s.
